Uzbekistan To Explore Round-The-Clock GW-Scale Clean Energy Project

Uzbekistan is set to explore the development of a GW-scale round-the-clock (RTC) clean energy project in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Masdar and Emirates Utilities Development Company (EUDC).
The country’s Ministry of Energy entered into the agreement with Masdar and EUDC under which 1 GW is planned to be the baseload power of the proposed project, even though the actual project capacity was not revealed. JSC Uzenergosotish, the state-owned company, will be the offtaker.
Masdar is already developing a 5.2 GW solar PV project integrated with 19 GWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity in Abu Dhabi as the world’s largest combined solar and battery storage project. It is expected to generate 1 GW of continuous and uninterrupted renewable energy.
“Projects of this scale show how clean energy can deliver reliable, round-the-clock power while supporting economic growth and energy security,” said the UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Mohamed Al Mazrouei, regarding the Uzbekistan project.
Masdar is already actively involved in Uzbekistan’s clean energy space with a nearly 2 GW portfolio. It is currently working on the Zarafshan BESS project with up to 575 MW /1.15 GWh of BESS capacity in the country.
Earlier this month, Masdar raised over $225 million from EBRD and ADB for the Guzar Solar and Storage Project in Uzbekistan.
